. . .Drawings by Larry Thomas are considered a major component of his studio activity.  Recognized for their intense yet subtle handling of raw pigment, ink wash, and fine charcoal manipulations, the content of the drawings reflects his fascination with our collective experience of the natural world, i.e., various phenomena of the landscape.  Many of the large scale drawing, some with dimensions of six to ten feet, are directly linked to a collective memory as embodied in myth and the expression of myths in the oral traditions of North American native song and story telling, tribal ritual objects and cultural paraphernalia.  The concentration on a canoe or boat-like form in many of the drawings conjures a broad host of references to the transitional journey or passage through the underworld.
